Are you planning to hit the road this summer and enjoy the gorgeous scenery Canada has to offer? To keep your journey safe as well as fun, we’ve put together some summer road trip safety tips.
Drive smart. The way you drive should be influenced by the road conditions and the terrain you’re driving through. For instance, if you’re driving through mountains, you should shift into a lower gear. When it’s raining, make sure you increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Avoid boredom. It’s easy to get bored and fatigued on long drives. Make sure you’re ready for the road by downloading podcasts and audio books. Bring some fun, safe games you can play with your passengers as you drive, too. And make frequent stops to ensure you don’t get road fatigue.
Beware of animals. Canada is blessed with an abundance of wildlife, and there’s a good chance you could encounter some of it on the road as you drive. Keep a watchful eye out for animals, scanning both sides of the road. Keep in mind that animals tend to be more active at dusk and dawn. Look out for flickering road reflectors — that’s a good indication that an animal is walking in front of them.
